Trawl – Privacy Policy

Trawl is a recipe management app. Your privacy matters — here is what data we handle and why.

Authentication

Trawl uses Sign In with Apple. We receive a unique, anonymous user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your email address. We do not receive your Apple ID password.

Recipe Data

• On your device: Recipes, cookbooks, and grocery lists are stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework.
• iCloud sync: If you have iCloud enabled, your data syncs across your devices via Apple's CloudKit. This data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
• AI processing: When you scan or import a recipe, the text and/or images are sent to a third-party AI service (OpenRouter) through our backend server for extraction and analysis. This data is used solely to process your request and is not stored on our servers beyond the duration of the request.

Usage Tracking

Our backend records anonymous usage metrics for AI processing requests: your anonymous user ID, the AI model used, token counts, and cost. This helps us manage service costs. We do not track your browsing behavior, recipe content, or personal information.

Data We Do Not Collect

• No analytics or tracking SDKs
• No advertising identifiers
• No location data
• No contacts or calendar access
• No sale of personal data to third parties

Third-Party Services

• Apple (iCloud/CloudKit): Device sync
• OpenRouter: AI recipe processing (OpenRouter Privacy Policy)
• Cloudflare: Backend hosting (Cloudflare Privacy Policy)

Data Retention

Your recipe data lives on your device and in your iCloud account — you control it. Usage metrics on our backend are retained for billing purposes and may be deleted upon request.

Your Rights

You can delete your data at any time by removing recipes within the app or by deleting the app (which removes local data). To request deletion of backend usage records, contact us at the address below.
